On Sunday evening, Sporting travelled to Sclessin for matchday 11 of the Jupiler Pro League. With a nine-match unbeaten run, Brian Riemer made no changes to his starting eleven compared to the win against Mechelen.
Sporting started the game dominantly. First a cross from Anders Dreyer, which immediately put Thorgan Hazard in the right position for a shot that went just wide. After about 10 minutes, the home side responded through Moussa Djenepo. After a lively start, it was RSCA who took the lead through Kasper Dolberg, after a good cross from Thorgan Hazard. Leoni, Hazard, Augustinsson and Rits applied pressure in the decisive zone and together they allowed Anders Dreyer to double the lead just before the half-hour mark. The Danish midfielder even found the net for the second time after a decisive pass from Theo Leoni, but the goal was disallowed by the VAR for an earlier handball by Théo. At the other end, a confident Kasper Schmeichel did well to keep out attempts from Kamal Sowah, Hayao Kawabe and Nathan Ngoy. After long possession and excellent combinations, it also took a fine save from Arnaud Bodart to prevent Thorgan Hazard from making it 0-3.
After just a few minutes in the second half, our lead disappeared quickly. Quick goals from Steven Alzate and Hayao Kawabe brought Sclessin alive. Things got worse when Nathan Ngoy slotted home a well-worked volley from the edge of the penalty area beyond Kasper Schmeichel: 3-2. After barely 15 minutes of play. Brian Riemer replaced Anders Dreyer, Thorgan Hazard and Mario Stroeykens with Luis Vázquez, Francis Amuzu and Kristian Arnstad. As a result, RSCA switched to a system with two strikers. With Alexis Flips replacing Mats Rits, the team became even more attacking. The Mauves did their best to put Standard under pressure, but unfortunately without much success. After a diligent and effective first half, RSCA returned from Liege empty-handed.
