Huerta is a Mauve. On Sunday, fans at the Park already caught a glimpse of the Mexican. Two days before the cup semi-final, Chino spoke to the press for the first time. The first meeting with the always smiling player, whose press conference can be watched in full on Mauve TV.
After what Huerta himself described as a “warm welcome at the club,” it’s time for serious business. In the morning, the new purple-and-white signing trained with the team on the pitch for the first time; in the afternoon, he held his first press conference.
The first differences from his home country are immediately noticeable. “The weather here is very different from that in Mexico, but I enjoy playing in the cold,” Chino smiled. Whether he will be available against Antwerp remains unclear: “I am working hard to be ready for Thursday.”
How does Chino describe his own playing style? “I always try to think forward and enjoy seeking out one-on-one situations.” Being compared to Salah is an honor for him. “I love his playing style, and he plays in the same position as I do. The comparison is often made in Mexico because we look alike.”
Chino is a family man. “My mother has supported me throughout my career,” he confirmed. “During this difficult time, after losing my grandmother, we are there for each other. Now there is always an angel watching over us.”
And finally, how should Belgian fans and the press address him? “Everyone calls me Chino,” he said. “In Mexico, almost every boy with curly hair gets that nickname.”
