On Sunday, RSCA travelled to leaders Racing Genk for the penultimate matchday of the regular league. Between the lines came pretty much the same starting eleven as against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night, only the injured Amir Murillo was replaced by Killian Sardella at right-back. The Mauves lost by heavy 5-2 figures, and are two positions away from a play-off 2 spot with only one game to play.
RSCA started well and had the first two real chances of the match through Islam Slimani, but the Algerian striker was stopped twice by Maarten Vandevoordt, who certainly made an excellent save on the first attempt. The home side responded through Angelo Preciado, whose header went wide, and Joseph Paintsil, whose shot was well blocked by Bart Verbruggen. Somewhat against the run of play, it was the Limburgers who found the net when Mbwana Samatta fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. RSCA then played their way into the match a bit more. A shot by Killian Sardella was well blocked by the home defence. But moments later, Islam Slimani was able to kick the equaliser unstoppably into the roof of the goal. But for long, RSCA could not hold that score. In injury time, Bart Verbruggen pushed away an effort by Joseph Paintsil, but Aziz Ouattara took advantage of the rebound to make it 2-1.
Brian Riemer's men experienced a disastrous start to the second half. After an initial chance from Bilal El Khannouss, the bluewings immediately extended their lead through Joseph Paintsil. After a wonderful collective combination, Bilal El Khannous then quickly made it 4-1. Anders Dreyer reduced the deficit from the right after a fine ball from Amadou Diawara, but that was not enough. Coach Brian Riemer brought a lot of fresh names between the lines in the second half, but they too could not turn the tide. On the contrary, our opponents managed to deepen their lead thanks to Joseph Paintsil's double. 5-2, A bad result in the play-off race. RSCA will have to win at home against Mechelen and hope Charleroi and Cercle do not win to still end up in play-off 2.
