Sporting hosted STVV on Saturday night at Lotto Park for the first game of the new season. A close game still yielded the three points in the end.
Anderlecht started the match well. Attempts by Anders Dreyer and Yari Verschaeren failed to open the score. After that, Sporting monopolized the ball, but without creating big opportunities. On the half-hour, Dolberg headed a cross from Dreyer wide. N'Diaye saw his effort blocked moments later. Both teams headed for the dressing rooms goalless.
The second half brought little improvement in terms of goalscoring chances. Brian Riemer brought on Kristian Arnstad, Jan-Carlo Simic, Mario Stroeykens and Luis Vazquez. That finally resulted in the desired three points, when Mario Stroeykens finally managed to open the scoring in the 92nd minute after good work by Dreyer and Dolberg. Three points to kick off the new season.
