Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jørgensen strengthens our back-line

RSC Anderlecht has reached an agreement with Brentford FC on the transfer of Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jørgensen (34). The Danish central defender with more than 100 Premier League games under his belt has signed a contract for one season at RSC Anderlecht.

Zanka - as the defender likes to be called ever since he signed his first professional contract - brings a lot of experience to the table. An overview: almost 200 games in the Danish Superliga for his formation club FC Copenhagen, 104 games in the Premier League for Brentford and Huddersfield and spells at clubs such as PSV, Fenerbahce and Fortuna Düsseldorf. On top of that, he has accumulated 30 games in the Champions League and Europa League and 37 caps for the Danish national team.

Zanka:

“Growing up in the 90s, every kid that liked football knew about Anderlecht. It’s a massive opportunity for me to join a big club like Anderlecht. I try to be a leader, to make the whole team play as a unit and help my teammates as much as possible.”

CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg:

“By bringing in Zanka, we’re adding an experienced central defender to the squad. He comes with leadership, he’s aggressive, strong in the duels and possesses good heading skills both offensively and defensively. This way, we have more possibilities in our back-line to make sure everyone is fit and ready for a long season.”
