On Friday, RSC Anderlecht travelled to KV Oostende for the opening game of the 24th matchday in the Jupiler Pro League. Compared to last weekend's match against Antwerp, Majeed Ashimeru was replaced by Kristian Arnstad (back from suspension), while Benito Raman (suspended and taking his place among the Brussels fans) was replaced by Mario Stroeykens in attack. New signing Islam Slimani started the match on the bench. Brian Riemer's men took home a deserved victory at the Diaz Arena.
Ostend started the match with a clear high press. Durdov, Atanga and Batzner missed two great chances in the first half-hour and the home team soon paid the price for their inaccuracy in the final move. Amir Murillo scored easily from a corner kick after 32 minutes of play. Sporting also threatened on several occasions, often through Amuzu on the left flank, but the final pass lacked finesse. 0-1, the score at the break.
After the restart, Mario Stroeykens' just missed his shot and Anders Dreyer's rebound hit the top of the crossbar. The Mauve et Blanc then controlled things well. Twenty minutes from time, Islam Slimani came on to make his debut, replacing Francis Amuzu, who had a good game. Bart Verbruggen was excellent in goal and once again made a good save on a strike from Sakamoto. A great piece of play by Majeed Ashimeru and Yari Verschaeren finally allowed Anders Dreyer to make that second goal: 0-2 and three very logical points.
