UEFA Europa League draw

Europa League

The draw for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League will take place this Friday 30 August at 1pm in Monaco. Eight different opponents will then be revealed.

The formats of European competitions have been massively reformed this season. Just like the Champions League, the group phase of the Europa League has become a league phase, with 36 teams involved. Each club will therefore face eight different opponents: four at home, and four away. The league's standings will be based on the results of the 36 teams.

The teams have been divided into four groups (of 9 teams each) according to their own coefficients. Each club is then drawn against two opponents from each pot. One will play at home and the other away. In this league phase, it is not possible for a club to play against a club from its own country, or against more than two opponents from the same country.

At the end of the eight league games (the last two of which will be played in January 2025), the top eight ranked clubs qualify for the last 16. The clubs ranked 9th to 24th will play a knockout play-off to try and join them. Clubs ranked lower than 24th will be eliminated from the competition.
