This Thursday evening, RSCA claimed victory in Prague. Hubert’s team extended their unbeaten streak to ten matches across all competitions and secured qualification for the next round of the UEFA Europa League. Sporting now sits in third place in the group stage, just two points behind the top two (Lazio and Bilbao), keeping their hopes alive for direct qualification to the Round of 16.
The fans at Eden Arena saw the visitors create the first big chance of the game, with Mats Rits narrowly missing the target. Shortly after, RSCA capitalized on their pressure when Nilson Angulo forced a turnover and scored with a beautifully placed shot into the bottom left corner: 0-1, giving the Brussels side an early lead. The Czech team increased the pressure, but Sporting stayed composed, with Colin Coosemans intervening once on a powerful shot from Holes. Despite the hosts’ efforts, it was Sporting who struck again. At the half-hour mark, Luis Vazquez set up Yari Verschaeren, whose low shot found the bottom left corner: 0-2, the halftime score.
After the break, Sporting had the first opportunity again, but Anders Dreyer, who replaced the injured Verschaeren at halftime, couldn’t convert. Around the hour mark, Colin Coosemans made a solid save from a long-range effort, but the resulting corner was converted by Prague’s Tomáš Chorý, who headed the ball into the net: 1-2. The home side pushed hard for an equalizer, but Sporting’s defensive structure held firm. In stoppage time, both Jan-Carlo Simic and Colin Coosemans made brilliant saves, sealing the win. Sporting claimed three hard-fought but crucial points from Prague, bringing their European tally to 14 out of 18.
