The Mauve et Blanc travelled to the King Power at Den Dreef on Sunday evening as part of matchday 21 of the Jupiler Pro League. Brian Riemer's team had to settle for a point (1-1). In the upcoming week, Sporting will face Union twice in the space of a few days - away in the cup and at home in the league.
Anderlecht got off to a good start with Thorgan Hazard's shot narrowly missing the target. But it was Leuven who opened the scoring. Kasper Schmeichel tried to launch a quick counter attack with a goal kick to Anders Dreyer, but his kick was intercepted by Youssef Maziz, who put away the opportunity neatly in the corner. A penalty could then have been awarded for a foul by Banzuzi on Kasper Dolberg, but the VAR decided not to give it. Youssef Maziz then came close to doubling his side's lead, but his close-range effort missed the target. At the other end, chances were rare. Anders Dreyer hit the bar but was ruled offside.
"The second half was better, but we're very disappointed and we'll have to start the next few games in a better way." Yari Verschaeren
With the score at 1-0 at the break, Sporting were obliged to mount a comeback and they did just that. Theo Leoni quickly had a shot on target. Kasper Dolberg then won a penalty which was ruled out for offside by Ludwig Augustinsson. From a Louis Patris pass, the Danish striker saw his shot blocked at the last possible moment by Ewoud Pletinckx. Anderlecht had the better of the game, but remained unrewarded for a long time. Twenty minutes from time, however, a taunting cross from Louis Patris ended up in the top corner of Tobe Leysen’s goal. At the other end, efforts from Richie Sagrado and Jonathan Braut Brunes did little to trouble Kasper Schmeichel.
