Saturday, RSCA takes on Cercle Brugge at 16:00 in the Jan Breydel Stadium. Coach Felice Mazzù sat down in front of the press, this Friday afternoon.
Mazzù gave an update on the injuries in the squad. Sergio Gómez resumed training with the group this week, but is not yet ready to play this weekend. "The medical staff have worked excellently with Sergio, he will rejoin the squad as soon as he is fully fit", said the coach. Killian Sardella, who returned to training on Friday, and Marco Kana will not be available for this weekend’s game either.
The coach is wary of the opponent this weekend. "Since the arrival of coach Thalhammer, Cercle play with enormous pressing and intensity. The number of points they have taken since, says it all. It's just a very good team."
Mazzù also briefly looked ahead to the match in the third preliminary round of the Conference League. RSCA travel to Estonian side Paide Linnameeskond next week. "I am happy that there is now clarity on the trip. The difference in quality with the Armenian opponents is difficult to assess (the two legs resulted in a 0-0 draw, after which Paide won on penalties, ed.). I do know that Paide are further into their season and have more rhythm than their Armenian opponents. A trip to Armenia would also have been a bit more tiring for the players, especially since we also play another league game on Sunday (against Seraing, ed.). But I'm not focused on the European game yet, I'm focused on this Sunday's game against Cercle."
The coach also indicated that the crammed schedule in August will provide opportunities for some other players. "I am convinced that there is enough quality to make the necessary changes at the right moments."
