RSC Anderlecht hosted West Ham United on Thursday in the third round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Compared to last Sunday's league match, Jan Vertonghen (ill), Julien Duranville and Lior Refaelov were replaced by Hannes Delcroix, Francis Amuzu and Amadou Diawara respectively.
The first half was lively with good chances on both sides. The Londoners threatened through Angelo Ogbonna, but Hendrik Van Crombrugge easily saved. Anderlecht hit back on the quarter-hour mark, but Francis Amuzu misjudged Fábio Silva's effort when it seemed to be going in the right direction. Moments later, Amadou Diawara's head intercepted a shot from Saïd Benrahma. The ping-pong game continued with Yari Verschaeren's shot well boxed in by Alphonse Aréola and another Saïd Benrahma effort well blocked by Zeno Debast. The Algerian missed a great chance to open the scoring.
Francis Amuzu was replaced by Julien Duranville after the restart. Hendrik Van Crombrugge made a good save from a low shot by Saïd Benrahma. The Hammers put on the pressure and clearly dominated the pitch, but were not dangerous. Benito Raman replaced Majeed Ashimeru on the hour mark. Coach David Moyes brought on the trio of Paquetá, Rice and Scamacca. Julien Duranville's cross almost gave Fábio Silva the chance to score, but it was an assist from Lucas Paquetá that gave Gianluca Scamacca the chance to score. In the other direction, an excellent cross from Lior Reafelov found the head of Fábio Silva and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola made a miraculous save. 0-1, final score.
