This Sunday evening, RSC Anderlecht hosted KV Oostende at the Lotto Park for the opening day of the Jupiler Pro League. The starting team was the same as the one that won the previous weekend's friendly against Lyon. Fábio Silva started on the bench.
After only a few minutes, Lior Refaelov came close to opening the score after an excellent service from Yari Verschaeren. Verschaeren's header was then easily saved by goalkeeper Guillaume Hubert. In the other direction, a shot from Thierry Ambrose went over the goal. Nearing the break, a very nice assist from Adrien Trebel allowed Majeed Ashimeru to score. 1-0, a logical score at the break.
In the second half, Anderlecht tried to make the difference, but the visitors left them little space. The best opportunities were for Theo Ndicka and Sebastiano Esposito, but their shots missed the target. Felice Mazzù then made several changes. Benito Raman and Fábio Silva should have made the breakthrough at the end of the game, but it was not until the 88th minute that the Portuguese scored with a superb shot. Wesley Hoedt's free kick hit the crossbar in the additional time. A well-deserved first victory for the Mauves in 2022-2023.
