Two injury-time goals - one at the end of each half - by Verschaeren and Dreyer secured Sporting the three points and third place.
The visitors started the match well and opened the scoring with a header by Marwan Al-Sahafi, assisted by Antoine Colassin. Sporting responded through Francis Amuzu, who was set up by Anders Dreyer but saw his shot saved by goalkeeper Nick Shinton. Around the half-hour mark, Colin Coosemans made an excellent save against another attempt by Al-Sahafi. While Brussels enjoyed the majority of possession (66%), the chances fell to the Antwerp side. Shortly afterward, Coosemans was called into action again, saving a shot from Thibaud Verlinden, who was well-served by Colassin. Just before halftime, Mario Stroeykens had to leave the field injured after a heavy tackle by Omar Fayed and was replaced by Yari Verschaeren. In first-half stoppage time, the Brussels side came alive. Kasper Dolberg came close to scoring from a Thomas Foket cross, but it was ultimately Yari Verschaeren who converted another excellent cross from Foket to level the score. The teams went level into halftime (1-1).
In the second half, the Brussels side picked up where they left off, but clear chances remained elusive until the hour mark. From then on, opportunities came thick and fast. Anders Dreyer shot went over the bar, Yari Verschaeren hit the post, and Nick Shinton made a brilliant save on Francis Amuzu's rebound. David Hubert’s men continued to push, but Kasper Dolberg’s header was easily caught by the Antwerp goalkeeper. Later, Dolberg, Luis Vázquez, and Leander Dendoncker all had chances, all three failed to convert. Just as in the first half, the decisive goal came in injury time, once again thanks to the substitutes. A long ball from Ludwig Augustinsson was perfectly laid off by Luis Vázquez to Anders Dreyer, who delivered the deserved winning goal for his team: 2-1.
