RSCA 2-0 Antwerp FC

RSCA 2-0 Antwerp FC

On Sunday afternoon, the Mauves hosted Antwerp FC at the Lotto Park for matchday 25 of the Jupiler Pro League. Danish striker Kasper Dolberg guided RSCA to victory with two goals. Thanks to this win, Sporting overtakes the Antwerp side and climbs to fourth place in the standings.

Star player Kasper Dolberg created the first chance of the match early on, but Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens made a save. Antwerp then had a few minor opportunities through Tjaronn Chery and Vincent Janssen, though possession was largely in Sporting's favor in the first half. The visitors became more dangerous around the half-hour mark when Tjaronn Chery unleashed a powerful long-range strike, but RSCA captain Colin Coosemans produced a fine save. The Mauves responded with a weak attempt from Killian Sardella and, more notably, a set-piece opportunity. Following a free kick from César Huerta, Yari Verschaeren deflected the ball, and Leander Dendoncker – well positioned at the far post – saw his effort denied by the Antwerp goalkeeper. The logical 0-0 score remained at halftime.

David Hubert’s team came out strong after the break, looking to take control of the match. They won several corners but failed to capitalize. However, it was only a matter of time before Kasper Dolberg opened the scoring around the hour mark after a fine assist from César Huerta. Barely five minutes later, the Danish striker doubled the lead with a precise cross from Killian Sardella. The Brussels side created a few more chances – including a header from Leander Dendoncker that went over the bar – but the lead remained unchanged. Twenty minutes from time, Kasper Dolberg received a well-deserved standing ovation. The Scandinavian was replaced by Luis Vazquez, who immediately made an impact and came close to sealing the game with a third goal. Antwerp responded late in the match through Gyrano Kerk, but Colin Coosemans once again showcased his class with a solid save. Just before the final whistle, coach David Hubert added a nice finishing touch: newly signed Elyess Dao made his debut in our colors.
