RSC Anderlecht and Lior Refaelov (37) have decided not to renew the collaboration. Everyone at the club wants to explicitly thank 'Rafa' for his commitment over the past two seasons.
Lior Refaelov made the switch from Royal Antwerp FC to RSC Anderlecht in the summer of 2021. In his first season in purple and white, Rafa immediately had a big impact with 19 goals and 6 assists in all competitions. He finished the current season with 6 goals and 7 assists. With his experience in the Belgian league, the former Golden Boot also had an important role in the dressing room and in guiding our young talents.
In recent months, the club management met several times with Rafa to discuss the future. With the utmost and mutual respect, it was decided not to extend the current contract that expires in June.
CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg:
“We’re saying goodbye to a player that has given a lot to this club. Rafa is not only a class player on the pitch, but he’s also a true gentleman off the pitch. But at this point, it is important for the club to make decisions in terms of our strategy for the future. Therefore we decided not to renew the contract. We are all grateful to Rafa for his contribution in the past two seasons. We wish him the best of luck in his career and we hope our paths will cross again in the future.”
Lior Refaelov:
“I had some great times at this club, and obviously we also experienced some difficult moments. I wish I could have said goodbye after a successful season, but even then I don’t regret one single moment that I spent at this club. I wish the club, the staff and my teammates all the best for the future and I wish for nothing more than for Anderlecht to get back to where it belongs as soon as possible.”
