Thursday evening, RSC Anderlecht received BSC Young Boys at the Lotto Park for the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off. Adrien Trebel, unavailable until the winter break after his shoulder operation, was replaced by Marco Kana. Lior Refaelov also got his place back in the starting line-up. Sporting qualified at the end of the suspense.
The first exchanges were very balanced and clear chances were totally inexistent until the half hour mark. The Congolese Meschack Elia signed a beautiful individual action and scored. A cold shower for the Anderlecht team, who immediately responded. Fábio Silva's shot missed the target. In the other direction, a header from Jean-Pierre Nsame went just over the goal. 0-1 at the break.
Sebastiano Esposito came in for Kristian Arnstad. Cédric Zesiger's shot threatened our goal. Fábio Silva's shot was blocked. The two coaches made several changes. Hendrik Van Crombrugge made a great save and Sebastiano Esposito had an unstoppable shot into the top corner, but his shot was called offside. Benito Raman's header was again saved by the goalkeeper. 0-1 and extra time.
During the additional thirty minutes, the Mauves dominated the debates and a shot of Benito Raman finished on the post. Our fans gave their best to push the players. In the very last moments of the game, Hendrik Van Crombrugge came up with a nice save. The presence and charisma of our captain then made the difference in the penalty shootout. An incredible party could start both inside the stadium and in the surrounding streets.
Come on you Mauves!
