Matchday 13 meant Sunday afternoon football for the Mauves. It travelled to Jan Breydel for the match against Cercle Brugge, fourth in the standings. Théo Leoni was left out of the squad with a minor injury. This way, Thomas Delaney, who just returned from injury, could take his place in the starting line-up in central midfield.
Cercle started the match well, putting high and intense pressure on RSCA's defense. But the Mauves managed to outplay the pressure and that created opportunities for RSCA. The first chance came in the name of Thomas Delaney. Killian Sardella gave an excellent cross from the right, and the Dane had an excellent chance to make it 0-1 in the box. However, his attempt from closeby went over. Cercle struck back on the other side with a chance for Kazeem Olaigbe, but Kasper Schmeichel, who celebtrated his birthday, neutralized the danger. After 20 minutes of play, Mario Stroeykens was able to take a shot on goal, but his attempt did not pose much of a threat to the home goalkeeper. Two attempts by Thorgan Hazard moments later were more dangerous, but he also failed to score.
But later in the second half Sporting really got going. Thorgan Hazard was nicely served with the head by Anders Dreyer, and our number 11 managed to free himself for a shot by flicking the ball over his opponent. The subsequent kick hit the post. A little later it was Hazard's turn again, who dribbled towards the goal and pushed through to reach Anders Dreyer, after which the Dane managed to play the ball to Kasper Dolberg who made it 0-1. And the same trio again made it 0-2 in beautiful fashion. Hazard cut inside and found Dolberg, who passed it to Anders Dreyer who confidently found the far corner. 0-2 at half time.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, RSCA completely killed the match. Anders Dreyer, he again, passed the ball backwards from the right to Mario Stroeykens, who neatly put the ball away in the left corner. Cercle then had to look even more for a goal, and that also resulted in a number of chances. However, Kasper Schmeichel kept the clean sheet on his birthday, and Sporting controlled the match. That gave Arnstad, Vazquez, N'Diaye and Flips the opportunity to get minutes. Cercle 0, Sporting 3.
